Mansfield Town defender George Taft has been loaned out until January to Cambridge United.

After signing defenders Zander Diamond and David Mirfin from Northampton and Scunthorpe Utd, respectively over the summer months, the Stags found themselves with too many defenders.

Certainly too many who were good enough for a starting place anyhow.

Krystian Pearce and Rhys Bennett who played in the centre last season impressed and with the two recent additions, there was little room for Taft to make his way into the first team.

Struggling with injuries last season, also went against the former Burton Albion man.

The 24 year old, previously had a spell with Cambridge in 2015, again on loan, where he made 13 appearances.

Taft started he career as a trainee with Leicester City.

  • Le Hane says:

Taft is still young,he still has time on his hands to develop and improve, some players do take longer than others to fully mature and this move could turn out to be a blessing in disguise for the 24 year old.He won’t get too many opportunities so he needs to grasp this chance and not let it slip,if he makes a success of it he could go on and become an established player at this level.

Taft impressed in the games he did play, I thought with a run of games he would be a decent centre back.
