‘Point Fair’ – Dearden

Mansfield Town boss Billy Dearden believes a point was fair value from Saturday’s derby game with Notts County, but has injury worries on his mind.

Mansfield Town boss Billy Dearden told CHAD, ‘In the end 0-0 was probably a fair result,

I was happy with the way we battled but not the performance.

But they are a young squad who are still learning and to go to Notts and get a point with a battling display is a good result.

If people let us play then we can play. But if it’s a battle then we can do a bit of both.

It wasn’t a good game. The pitch was a bit lively. We didn’t get the ball down and play but Notts didn’t allow us to.

That is five games unbeaten. But it’s no good getting a point here and not building on it and we now have two home games and our aim is to get six points from them.

We have injury worries with Stephen Dawson and Jonathan D’Laryea.

Dawson got a kick on his calf in the first half which was stiffening up and we probably kept him on there longer than we should have done.

Then Jon twisted an ankle. So to say what we had across the middle at the end, we did well to get a point.

Hopefully both will be fit for next week. Jon is the biggest worry but he is a young lad who is a good healer. If it was me I would be out now for next week! But Jon has a chance.’

Mansfield Town next have relegation battlers Boston at home on Saturday, followed by Macclesfield on Friday 23rd. A seven game unbeaten run and six more points should be on the cards, and the eight point gap may be closed even further. Think, not even two months ago The Stags were 19th, now they’re 11th. How times change in the lower leagues. This IS football.
