Talk about a ‘season defining game’ or what for Mansfield! The visit to the One Call Stadium of Tranmere tonight has to be viewed as such a game doesn’t it?

Going into this we’re six-points above Tranmere but with them having a better goal-difference than us if they condemn us to yet another defeat we’re looking in deep trouble – on the flip side a win and we’re all but safe, such fine margins!

Terry Hawkridge and Simon Heslop (both illness) missed the defeat at Plymouth on Saturday but have returned to training and should be fit to feature, with Junior Brown (suspension) back from his four-match ban.

Newport loanee ‘keeper Lenny Pidgeley (hamstring) missed that two-one defeat but should return but Ritchie Sutton (hip) was injured in the warm-up and is a doubt.

Port Vale lost loanee George Green, Adam Dugdale and Iain Hume (virus) missed the defeat at Southend with Max Power battling for as long as he could. It’s hoped that is now cleared. Only Marcus Holness (knee) is unavailable due to injury.

It’s going to be ‘squeaky bum time’ if we slip up again tonight with a draw the minimum we need to get to maintain the status quo, a win would be awesome but can we get it?
