Mansfield Town’s 2-1 loss to Accrington Stanley has only added more weight to the Lancashire side being the Stags ‘bogey team’.

12 times the Stags have now faced Accrington since a 1-0 FA Cup win at Field Mill back in 2006, and 12 times they have failed to overcome the Lancashire side.

Make that 9 defeats and 3 draws in that dismal run.

It was also Accrington who sent the jitters running though both the coaching staff and fans alike last season, as the play off push was gathering momentum.

They turned up at the One Call, and made our defenders look no better than Sunday League standard, and deserved more than the 4-4 draw they took away that night.

Had Stanley won 8-4 that night, no one would have complained.

What is it about this team and the fact the Stags can’t seem to get the better of them?

True, every side has a ‘bogey’ team they struggle with, but most Stags supporters now face reality that we’ll never get anything from our trips North, can we put it right in the home game later in the season?

The fact that an ex Stags (Billy Kee) was on hand to push the final nail in yesterday with an injury time winner, was even harder to take.

Luton Town is next up at the One Call, with a big performance required to lift the gloom from this latest Stanley set back.
