Rising Mansfield Town winger Nathan Arnold looks set to clinch a new deal just days after turning out a man-of-the-match performance against promotion chasing Lincoln on Saturday.

Arnold has not signed yet, but has stated his belief in boss Billy Dearden, which will be a major factor in his decision.

Speaking to the Nottingham Evening Post, the young striker said ‘The gaffer has had me in his office and told me he is offering me a two-year deal.’

‘It is not the best money to be honest but I’m not too bothered about that because I just want to get into the team and prove myself.

‘The manager told me he had already seen me play against Doncaster and Darlington before he came to the club and that he was aware of my abilities.

‘Jake (Buxton) and Bap (Alex John-Baptiste) are good examples to follow and the manager showed last time when he was here that he is prepared to give youth a chance.’

In his previous spell in-charge Dearden used youth in order to lift the club away from the bottom tier of English football, bringing through such youngsters as Bobby Hassell (Barnsley), Liam Lawrence (Stoke), Leroy Williamson (Watford) and Craig Disley.

The same result once more would leave a lasting mark on Mansfield Town Football Club again, and perhaps Arnold is just the start of something big once more.
