Mansfield have released the retained list at the end of the 2014/15 season as preparations for the 2015/16 season get underway already, there’s little time for any break is there with Adam Murray having to make some tough calls.

Murray’s decision to release Lee Beevers, Alex Fisher, Simon Heslop, Ricky Ravenhill, Michael Raynes, Martin Riley and Sascha Studer at the end of their contracts was confirmed on the Official Website this week.

Options were taken up on Reggie Lambe and Ryan Tafazolli, so they’ll be staying along with Joe Fitzpatrick, Dan Fletcher, Corbin Shires and Jack Thomas, who are all under contract for next season, at least.

Those that have, or soon will, reach the end of their contracts are Junior Brown, Chris Clements, Liam Marsden, Jamie McGuire, Ollie Palmer, Matt Rhead and Ritchie Sutton. But all seven are players that Murray wants to keep and have been offered new deal.

Also offered professional contracts are youth players Anthony Dwyer and Chris Spencer with decisions made on the futures of Matty Blair and Luke Jones once they’re fully fit and can prove their fitness after long-term injuries.

Loanees Callum Elder, Terry Hawkridge, Vadaine Oliver and Lenny Pidgeley have all returned to their parent clubs with Rakish Bingham and Liam Hearn yet to meet with Murray, who will do so ‘to discuss their futures later this week.’

On these decisions Murray said.

‘Firstly, I’d like to thank all of the players for keeping the club in the Football League. It has been a tough few months and everyone has given their all to the cause.

‘We’re at a point now where I feel the whole club needs a fresh start. There have been some tough decisions made, but decisions which have been made in the best interests of the football club.

‘We now need a fresh energy, focus and a new impetus, as well as a new group [of players] to take us forward.’

Murray, as he’s previously said, does feel the core of the squad is in place with some good young talent in place, some could go out on loan initially next season, but we should expect ‘wholesale changes’ this summer with no few than 13 players being eyed up.

‘We have a good young group of players and some will go and gain experience on loan early into the new season.

‘There could be wholesale changes. I am looking in the region of adding around 13 new players. It’s a big overhaul but something that I feel is needed as I plan the future for Mansfield Town.’

Also confirmed was the move to make John Dempster the academy manager on a permanent basis.
