Mansfield Town hero Alfie Potter scored his first ever professional hat-trick in the 5-0 win over Newport, to boost the Stags promotion hopes.

Mansfield Town supporters were in raptures as Newport County were swept aside, just a couple of weeks after the Welsh side were ten minutes away from dumping premier league side Tottenham Hotspur out of the FA Cup.

The win cemented the Stags play off spot, as they sit comfortably in 5th place.

They were joined in the play offs on Tuesday night by Mansfield Town reserves (also trading as Lincoln City FC), after the Imps secured a lucky home win over Cheltenham Town.

It means. that whatever the result from the Stags long trek to Exeter City on Saturday, the play offs will not be missing Mansfield Town, as the Devon club are 4 points worse off in 8th spot, albeit with 2 games in hand.

Notts County fans were also celebrating this week, after one of the worst for results in the clubs history, ended with a narrow win over Carlisle United.

With Luton Town now becoming clear favourites for the title, the race for the other two promotion slots, is hotting up, and the Stags are very much in the mix coming to the middle of February.

Oh, and we didn’t even mention Chesterfield letting in another 95th minute goal to go more adrift at the bottom!
