Mansfield Town have completed the signing of midfielder Jacob Mellis to take their end of season tally to six signings.

Mellis, 26 was signed by Chelsea in 2007 from Sheffield United for a £1 million transfer fee and comes with a great pedigree on the field.

He even made his Chelsea debut in a Champions League tie back in 2010.

A spell at Southampton on loan, was followed by a succesful spell at Barsnley, where he made over 70 appearances in the EFL Championship.

Mellis then found his way via Blackpool and Oldham, to Bury, where he signed a two year deal in 2015.

Now that has ended, he finds himself in League 2 wanting to help the Stags climb up the football pyramid.

Mansfield Town boss Steve Evans said of his latest capture, to the Official Mansfield Town Website ‘He is very gifted, has a wonderful left foot and our supporters will quickly realise why this kid was subject to moving to Chelsea for over a million pounds, and intelligent and creative for Barnsley in their last Championship campaign.’
