Mansfield’s run of games without a win was extended to eight as we lost at in-form Shrewsbury Town on Saturday afternoon, who secured their sixth straight league 2 win.

The challenge at Greenhous Meadow was always going to be a difficult one against the real in-form side in the division but the sending off of Jamie McGuire made this job even more difficult with us eventually losing 2-0.

Shrewsbury began well with Bobby Grant close to curling them into the lead, but the real turning point came when McGuire was sent off with just half an hour played. Already booked, along with Shrewsbury’s Liam Lawrence, he then ‘flew into a tackle’ and this foul on James Collins earned him a red.

Collins almost made that man advantage count instantly but couldn’t finish a cross from Jack Grimmer.

An air of inevitability surrounded the stadium, then when and not if moment came just ahead of the hour mark when Grimmer put in Grant (59) who riffled an unstoppable effort into the roof of the net to give the home side the lead.

The two-nil win was secured by the Shrews with 15-minutes to play as Grant’s corner was headed down by Jermaine Grandison with Collins (75) doing the rest.
