Mansfield Town were awarded a home tie with League one side Rochdale in the Copacabana trophy in a draw that didn’t go to plan.

Much to the puzzlement of viewers watching, the first round of the newly sponsored League Cup, went from farce to farce, even taking into account it was being held in Thailand in the first place.

As the ties were displayed on the TV screen, Charlton Athletic were then shown to be playing twice in the round, a fault later blamed on a ‘technical’ glitch with the feed into the monitors.

Once that was all done and dusted, it came about the Stags would be playing Rochdale.

The competition is actually called the EFL Carabao Cup, something to do with a drinks company based in Thailand, hence the bizare setting for the draw!

Charlton for the record, ended up playing Exeter City away.

Our local rivals from over the M1 were handed a trip to Hillsborough to play Sheffield Wednesday, we did that so last year.

Ties will be played on Tuesday 8th August, with no doubt very little fanfare.
