If a point had been offered to Mansfield ahead of the game on Saturday afternoon I think it would have been taken, but having been in a winning position this wouldn’t have been as well received in the end but a 1-1 draw with Portsmouth at Fratton Park is a draw that we’ll be happier with than our hosts I’d suspect.

A first half void of too many clear cut chances saw the sides go into the break goalless with the game bursting into life within a minute of the restart.

Out of almost nothing Simon Heslop (46) collected the ball on the edge of the area to fire past Portsmouth ‘keeper Paul Jones to give us a one-nil lead.

Jones was able to keep out a Rakish Bingham effort though, his fingertips prevented the striker from further extending our lead and maybe putting us out of sight?

Portsmouth levelled with 20-minutes to play though as substitute Nigel Atangana made the impact that would have been wanted from him as he pulled the ball across goal for loanee Paul Robinson (70) to smash home his first goal for Portsmouth and first in well over two-years full stop.

That goal spurred on Portsmouth and they almost won it late on when Danny Hollands had a drive tipped over by ‘keeper Sascha Studer as the game ended in a draw.
