You’ve got to say it quietly, as to not jinx anything of get over confident, but Mansfield should have all but assured League 2 survival on Tuesday with the win over Tranmere at the One Call Stadium.

The one-nil win, with ‘avoiding defeat’ essential against a side in the bottom two, over Tranmere moves us eight-points clear of trouble with only three-matches left with other results seeing our visitors slip to the foot of the Football League.

We seemed to mean business as we would have gone ahead inside the opening minute, in fact opening 30-seconds, had it not been for a fine save from Tranmere ‘Fon Williams to deny Oliver.

On the stroke of half time though this goal came as Oliver turned provider to send Lambe (44) away to break the deadlock a minute before the break with that goal being enough to give us a vital three-points.

The game, which had an incredible 14-minutes injury-time at the end, ended on a sour note though with Lambe sent off in this period as he picked up a second yellow card for the part he played in ‘a bust-up’ between the two sides.

Technically Tranmere can catch us, as long as we match their result on Saturday that would eliminate that scenario as it would if we match, or better, Cheltenham too so fingers crossed!
