Adam Murray’s 100% run as caretaker boss of Mansfield came to an end in emphatic circumstances with Luton Town comfortable 3-0 winners at Kenilworth Road on Saturday afternoon.

The tone was set early on with Luton going close to forcing the breakthrough when Sascha Studer saved Nathan Doyle’s effort from 25-yards, although it wasn’t long before the lead did come. It took him two attempts but veteran Luton striker Paul Benson (19) opened the scoring, with him forced off on a stretcher shortly after.

Mark Cullen could have added the second if Kieron Freeman hadn’t got back to make a fine goalscoring challenge with Luton continuing to dominate. Andy Drury put an effort just wide, a Shaun Whalley effort was deflected behind for a corner and from this Lee Beevers headed a Fraser Franks effort off the line.

Reggie Lambe went close with an overhead kick with Cullen denied by the crossbar from a Michael Harriman cross before two-goals in four-minutes either side of the hour mark from Whalley (59 & 63) finally secured Luton’s win.
