Mansfield tried to make it difficult for Bury, who found it hard to initially break us down, but in the end the home side ran out the winners on Sunday afternoon.

A goal towards the end of each half was enough for Bury to condemn us to a two-nil defeat at Gigg Lane.

Bury were forcing an opener with Lowe twice forcing Evtimov into saves, although both efforts were straight at him but eventually with half time approaching Bury made the breakthrough, Hope’s 20-yard effort was only parried by Evtimov with Lowe (40) in the right place to finish the rebound.

Heslop and Brown had chances in the second half but neither could hit the target as an equaliser eluded us.

Mayor (77) doubled the home sides lead with a little under 15-minutes to play when he ended his own run with a finish beyond Evtimov into the corner.

Bury ‘keeper Lainton was forced into a save in the end but it made no odds with us ending up two-nil losers.
