Mansfield Town boss Steve Evans has revealed this weekend that his top priority ahead of the season, is still a striker.

After the 2-0 pre-season friendly win at Alfreton, Evans revealed to the Mansfield Town official website that a bid was close to being completed on Friday but was held up slightly as the club concerned were waiting on a replacement themselves.

He has since been on TalkSPORT on Sunday afternoon, with his views on the EFL in general, but was also dropping hints into the proposed transfer.

We now know that the player concerned is a League 1 striker, although social media predictions late last week of a bid for Wigan, and former Grimsby striker Omar Bogle, look to be wide of the mark, as during his post match interview after Alfreton, Evans eluded to the fact that the player was none of the names being mentioned.

Evans did say on the show however on radio, that it is a player who has scored goals, but his current club have ambitions of their own of being promoted from League 1.

That has again sent social media into meltdown as to who the player is.
