Mansfield Town manager Steve Evans has said a club record bid for a striker is very much being laid on the table somwehere.

It has been widely known around the One Call, that Evans is not happy with his lot on striker buys, and want’s that big money signing to complete his dealings this summer.

A move for Scunthorpe Utd striker Tom Hopper was becoming well known in the public domain, however hope a deal could be struck looks to have broken down when the player came to look at the personal details, Evans told the Official Mansfield Town website on Hopper ‘When he spoke to his family, he decided that he wants to play at the highest level possible and we respect that.’

Now, another deal looks to be on the cards, although it won’t be done in time for the weekend clash with Forest Green Rovers, by the looks of it. Evans went on ‘I’ve had a long chat with their manager on the phone this morning. It won’t be a question of whether we can get there on the fee, I know we can get there on the fee. The manager is going to have a chat with that player today and say ‘would you like to have a football chat with us?’.

Again, social media has gone into meltdown as to who the new player could be, so it not Hopper, then who?
