Announced as the new Peterborough United manager this afternoon, former Stags boss Steve Evans now claims he was off abroad but got sidetracked to join his friend Barry Fry.

It has been the worst kept secret in lower league football for the last couple of days, but now we have stopped crying over his departure we can look at all the holes in the follow up quotes and stories coming out.

The first reports are that Evans was off to ‘pursue an opportunity outside of the UK.’

He of course insists that he just happened to ring his mate Barry Fry out of the blue, as he was leaving the One Call Stadium, wanting a ticket for the mouth watering mid table clash between the Posh and Walsall that night.

Fry, in a quiz show type of humour that night, must have replied ‘I can go one better than that Evo, how about the managers job here’.

Evans must have been gutted to knock his planned job in the sun go to waste and head for the better lights of Peterborough instead.

He was once offered a job in Qatar whilst at the Stags, or at least that’s what he told he told us once.

So Doha or Peterborough? Yeah, we can’t decide either!
