Mansfield successful negotiated Tuesday nights FA Cup first round replay at Concord Rangers to book our place in the next round.

A tense affair, which the home side did dominate in the opening 45-minutes, was eventually settled by a goal around the hour mark as we advanced into the second round with a 1-0 win that sets up a meeting with league 2 rivals Cambridge United.

Lewis Taaffe would have put the home side ahead after he latched onto a long ball to round ‘keeper Sascha Studer but Liam Marsden managed to get back to cover and cleared off the line. Jordan Chiedozie was the hero of the original tie and he went close before the break, but his effort just cleared the crossbar.

We started the second half much better and instantly after the break Olly Palmer almost scored but his effort was turned around the post by Concord’s Arsenal loanee ‘keeper Josh Vickers. There wasn’t any let off as moments later, after coming on at the break Fergus Bell beat Vickers but not the post.

Now well in control we finally broke through just past the hour mark when Robert Taylor put in a cross to Palmer (61) who wasn’t to be denied this time. Palmer, who could have had a hat-trick on another night, was denied again by Vickers to keep the tie in the balance.

Chiedozie nearly forced extra time in the dying second but his effort cleared the bar and we advanced with a one-nil win.
