Mansfield’s season, for what it was worth, ended in disappointment with us finishing with a two-one loss at Accrington, who won to end a four-match run without a win on home soil, on Saturday.

It was, it’s fair to say, ‘a dead rubber’ but we, and our hosts for that matter, would have preferred this to the alternative but even so McGuire’s (39) goal just before half time into the top corner sent us in one-up.

Accrington were level within minutes of the second half restarting with Conneely (47) following up after Windass’ initially header had been saved.

The comeback was complete when Gornell (71) scored from a narrow angle to condemn us to a final day defeat, which meant we ended in 21st position but the main thing was that we stayed up and that wasn’t looking so good at spells this season.
